Florida Weatherization Assistance Program

Florida WAP focuses heavily on cooling efficiency given the state's hot climate and high AC costs.

What it provides: Free energy-efficiency improvements for income-qualified households

Assistance: Insulation, duct repair, AC tune-ups, refrigerator replacement, and health-and-safety repairs.

Eligibility: Priority for elderly, disabled, and families with children.

Who may qualify:

  • Households at or below 200% of federal poverty level
  • Recipients of SNAP, SSI, or TANF
  • Renters with landlord permission

Requirements:

  • Income documentation
  • Landlord agreement for rental properties
  • Energy audit before and after work

FPL Energy Savings Programs

FPL serves South and Central Florida; similar programs exist through Duke Energy and TECO for other regions.

Eligibility: Must be FPL customer; income at or below 200% FPL or enrolled in assistance programs.

Duke Energy serves much of Central and North Florida outside FPL territory.

What it provides: Free home energy improvements for qualifying Duke Energy Florida customers

Assistance: HVAC maintenance, insulation, air sealing, and energy-efficient lighting.

Eligibility: Income at or below 200% federal poverty level or automatic eligibility via assistance programs.

Who may qualify:

  • Duke Energy Florida customers meeting income requirements
  • Households receiving public assistance benefits
  • Renters with landlord consent

Requirements:

  • Duke Energy account in applicant's name
  • Home energy assessment appointment
  • Landlord agreement for rental units
