California College Grants Programs
California residents access state Cal Grants, federal Pell Grants, and institutional aid through the California Student Aid Commission (CSAC). Filing the FAFSA or California Dream Act Application by March 2 unlocks most state grant eligibility.
Cal Grant A
Cal Grant A is entitlement-based for eligible students meeting GPA and deadline requirements. It is the primary state grant for four-year university students.
What it provides: Tuition and fee coverage at UC and CSU campuses
Assistance: Covers systemwide tuition and fees at UC (~$14,000) and CSU (~$7,000) for up to four years.
Eligibility: Minimum 3.0 GPA for Cal Grant A; income and asset ceilings apply.
Who may qualify:
- California residents attending UC or CSU
- Recent high school graduates meeting GPA requirements
- Students with financial need per FAFSA/CADAA

Eligibility: Minimum 2.0 GPA; strong emphasis on financial need.

- First-generation college students often prioritized
